Finding joy in God's unexpected callings
"A man’s mind plans his way [as he journeys through life],
but the Lord directs his steps and establishes them." (Prov. 16:9, AMP)
Most of my adult life has been a journey with God…literally. I have moved often and have been amazed at the roles He prepared for me. Through it all, God has been constant. Furthermore, His call on my life–to abide in Him and bear fruit (John 15:4-5, 16)–remains constant. But the callings within that call? Well, those have often been unexpected. At times the unexpected callings were big–such as moves or career changes; other times, smaller–like a morning calling over coffee to see scripture with fresh eyes. To me, joy exists in all those unexpected callings, though sometimes it requires a few deep breaths to let it settle in! Unexpected callings provide assurance God wants us to know Him more, have a testimony to share, and live our lives in light of His call. And in those assurances, I will rejoice.

Treading Paths of Joy Through a Study of Philippians
What is joy?
Why should I be interested in “treading paths of joy”?
A review of Well-Worn Paths from the beta study group:
“Well-Worn Paths is more than another study on Philippians. Cathy has a unique ability to take God’s word and present a clear and precise picture of God’s purpose for us and the steps needed to tread a path of Joy no matter our circumstances. It’s a study you will refer to repeatedly and want to share with others needing the hope & love of Jesus.” ~ Jonna E.
“Joy is not a downward concentration on current circumstances, but an upward and outward devotion to what maintains long-term value. It does not come and go but is rooted in the truth of who God is and displayed as evidence of His Spirit in us. When viewing joy from this perspective, we can always rejoice in the Lord" (Phil. 4:4).
