Thoughts on Rock Climbing
Relying on God’s all-sufficient support
A precious visit

My grandsons came to visit this past weekend. They are four and two, and we love them dearly. It is always a joy to see them, but it is also a lot–particularly in a very small apartment. “We can’t bounce the lacrosse ball at 6:00 am because it wakes up the people underneath us.” “Let’s feed the puppy just one treat apiece, not handfuls.” “I’m sorry, but Pops can’t pick you up right now because he just had surgery.”
You get the picture.
So, yes, of course we were at the park at 6:30 Sunday morning in pajamas and crocs. The need to burn a little time and energy before getting ready for church was urgent!
A daunting task

While the four-year-old scampered up the stairs to the chute’s anticipated opening, the two-year-old eyed the ten-foot rock-climbing wall to make his ascent. I moved behind him, knowing that the holds were positioned for older, taller children (and that crocs are not the best climbing shoes!). It would be impossible for him to do it on his own.
As I steadied his legs and encouraged his progress, he braved the unsteady footing, scaled the wall, and boldly reached for the final hold to pull himself onto the platform. I had not made it easy on him; but, I had never left him, and I had provided all he needed to accomplish the task. And when he turned to wave down at me from his lofty perch, he was beaming…which of course made me smile, too.
Our own daunting tasks
You know, sometimes God either places or allows “rock-climbing walls”–with big gaps between holds–right in our paths. Whether it is a calling to forgive, to adjust an attitude, to change eating habits, to alter our budgets, to live with an illness, to move from a familiar place, to undertake a new task for which we feel inadequate, or whatever else comes to mind, there we stand, improperly dressed and with uncertain footing awaiting.

The question is: Will you take advantage of His all-sufficient support?
If you do, you will know His pleasure when you smile up at Him with joy, satisfaction, trust, and gratitude, having accomplished what He called you to do.
Your personal “rock-climbing wall” experiences
Does this resonate with you? Have you had a “rock-climbing wall” experience with God’s support? I would love to hear about it in the comments below. Please share the verses God used to steady your legs, too. They may be just the words someone else needs to hear!
Praying you know God’s pleasure!
